Safe ECT

VRINN members Sykehuset Innlandet and Vixel in cooperation with Helse Sør-Øst.

Simulation based training for improved quality in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT).

Background:
ECT is a clinical treatment that needs specifically trained personel. The use of a visual experience with virtual reality leads to increased learning and advanced observation training.

Aim:
The aim of this project is to develop a virtual training program for checklist training prior to initiating ECT.

Why VR?

  • Enables quantity training
  • No risk to patients
  • Easy distribution
  • Creates a highly qualified team

Technology:
Decentralized training through virtual reality technology:  training in how to handle ECT with others, independent of the geographical location is possible.

Results:
Through virtual reality for checklist training prior to ECT it was possible to create potential risk situations in a safe environment, visualize and train complex clinical situations in a planned observation phase and improve the quality and the patients safety in ECT
